Easy Clothespin Dolls

http://www.thisheartofmineblog.com/2013/07/31/clothespin-wrap-dolls/

Effervescent Ethel asked me recently if I could make her some dolls for her dollhouse. Easy and fun craft project we did outside (sunny, yay!) on the picnic table. Less than two hours later and we had a whole sorority of dolls for her dollhouse.

Craft items used for this project:

-peg clothespins
-glue
-cotton swab (to spread glue)
-embroidery floss
-bon bon craft yarn (http://www.lionbrand.com/yarns/bonbons.html)
-black quilting thread
-fine point black permanent marker
-black crepe paper
-ribbon
-scissors
-sequins
-rhinestone
-penny or similar for the base (optional but recommended)

Cost: Ø

Fairy doll

This one is EE's own design.

I glued a penny at the base of each doll so they would not fall over as easily.

Sand Art Mini Terrarium

Inspired by: http://blog.kellychristinephoto.com/diy-tutorial-sand-art-terrariums/

~sls~'s Note: There wasn't enough natural sand color so I took 1/3 cup of salt, some chalk and a microplane and grated enough chalk into the salt to create a color I liked. Mix well.

Need:

-small clear glass container (shot glass, baby food jar, condiment jar, votive candle holder, cosmetic jar, etc.) The mouth of the jar needs to  be wide enough for a bent spoon to fit.
-sand in various colors. If you don't want to buy sand in individual colors you can dye natural colored sand with food dye or use the salt and chalk mix (see Note above).
-small spoon (look for one second hand!)
-decorations: cactus, palm tree, rock, treasure chest, toy soldier, etc. (Effervescent Ethel made the cactus and snake out of Fimo™.)

First I added about 1" of the natural sand color to the bottom of the jar. Next, take the spoon and bend the neck part at a 90º angle (see photo above). Now flatten down the top of the sand making small hills. Spoon in colored sand of your choice. To do this you lightly tap the spoon against the side of the jar. For each layer you want about 1/8"-1/4" layer of sand in order for it to show. Add your next color, switch colors. Use the regular sand color for the top layer. Decorate.

Cost: .49 cents for the small jar found at Goodwill
