this TO that -----------------> Plus, Pirate (Jello™) Sails

For all the gluey fun, go here!:

Behold the Power of The Glue!

Via boingboing.net:

'Have you ever wanted to glue one thing to another, but not known exactly how to do it? This to That is here to answer your highly specific prayer.
Select two materials (glass, wood, styrofoam, etc.) from a dropdown list and PRESTO! An instant list of the best adhesives for your task. For bonus fun check out the FAQ, which discusses the dubious wisdom of DIY dentistry and gluing things to crayfish.
"I have long considered this to be one of the great unknown useful websites on the internet," wrote Twitter user Matthew Elmslie earlier this week. Now you know. Go forth and glue.'

Pirate (Jello) Sails:

Ollie the Orca took a bite of the pirate flag! Yucky! (*NO* glue was harmed in the creation of this craft.)

Valentine Tree

http://www.busybeekidscrafts.com/Love-Tree.html

A certain young Miss by the name of Effervescent Ethel went a bit overboard (pardon the expression) with stickers but all is forgiven. Cordially, ~CME~

To craft this easy project you'll need:

-background paper (red, pink, purple or other appropriate Valentine color)
-twine, jute or similar to make the branches
-heart stickers for the "leaves" (or make your own using scrap paper, recycled greeting cards, newsprint, etc.)
-glue
-scissors
-ribbon, scrap paper or similar for the "grass" if desired

Cost: US$2 for a spool of lightly glittered jute-like ribbon (picked up on a decent discount at Michaels crafts in December) and self-adhesive Valentine heart stickers (Dollar Tree) and leftovers from our Valentine card making project this week.

DIY Litebrite™

source: Pinterest

To make:

-1 large clear plastic box with flat lid  (specifically I used a Sterlite™ brand 15-quart/14 L clear box with latch lid measuring 16"x13"x6 5/8" or 41.9cm x 33cm x16.8 cm)
-tissue paper, wax paper, parchment or vellum paper
-a string of white or clear Christmas mini lights (I used a string of 50 lights but would recommend a string of 100 lights)
-clear Scotch tape (optional) The tape is used to attach the paper to the lid but I skipped taping the paper. It wasn't necessary.
-*clear items and not limited to: buttons, beads, hair accessories (butterfly clips, for ex), spare Christmas tree light bulbs, stones/rocks (quartz, Apache tears/black obsidian, etc.), sewing machine bobbins, jewelry findings, clear electrical outlet protectors, etc.

* I found most of the decorations at Walmart and the Dollar Tree. I also raided my craft barrels.

Cost: about $10.00 (including the box, decorations, string of lights)

Uses: math, science, art/crafts, etc.

Button Icicles

I had a surplus of white buttons to make this easy craft project last week.

What we used to make the icicles:

-white buttons (I think clear or iridescent buttons would work well but I had many plain white buttons to use up and couldn't justify buying more buttons.)
-glue
-3/8"(9 mm) ribbon with iridescent edges
- fine loose glitter 'blue diamond dust'
-scissors
-paintbrush
-small bowl to mix glue and glitter
-fishing line or similar to hang the icicles from the ceiling

Note: Remember to put the buttons in order from largest to smallest (top to bottom).

Cost: $1.50 for a spool of iridescent ribbon
