...7 Bling-y Rings...And a Pirate in a pear tree!

"Whar be the other 3?!", Cap'n Mad Ellen fiercely inquires of the crew.

An easy and fast craft project that incorporates art and math. This week Effervescent Ethel is learning subtraction equations with minuends of 10. I had her write the numerical equation and also draw pictures of the equation. Be sure to have your little student check his/her work! Characteristically, we used gold doubloons to check that the answer was correct. PS Boy pirates can draw skull rings or tattoos for example if you want a more masculine look.

To do:

Trace the child's hands onto a piece of white paper. Have him/her draw rings on 9 or fewer fingers. Color and decorate the hands as desired. Set aside for the glue to dry if necessary.

Cut out the hands and glue to another complementary color of background paper. Write and draw the equation on a scrap piece of the white paper. Glue it to the background paper. Let dry. Hang up and admire your art!

Rations we used:

-white paper to trace
-pencil
-background paper
-crayons to color the hands (markers or color pencils)

-buttons, sequins,  glitter, small "jingle" bell, jewelry findings, etc. to decorate the rings
-scissors
-glue
-gold doubloons, "poker chips", dried beans, pennies or similar for counting and checking your math

Cost: hardly any cost
